Day 1 (Saturday 29th September)
The ISGA Home internationals took place in Scotland The first day was held at ‘Craigielaw golf club’ on the Saturday 29th, situated right on the coast line resulting in a brisk wind coming off the sea. With these winds, and with what some players described, “difficult pin positions”, the scoring was much higher than expected, with only one player, ‘Karl Eccles’ (Cambell College) breaking 80 with a score of 79. Following closely with a score of 80 was Scott Johnson, and Rory Williamson with an 83 to put Cambell College, representing Northern Ireland, in the lead by 3 shots over the home team Loretto (defending champions). Wellington (England) with Chris Thomas and Ryan Lumsden both shooting a score of 80 gave them 3rd place, trailing behind Loretto by just 2 shots. Day 2 Sunday 30th September
The second day of the ISGA Home Internationals held at Archerfield turned out to be extremely eventful. The conditions varied throughout the day with some rain, wind and the occasional sunshine. The course was in immaculate condition resulting in good shots being rewarded, and poor shots being punished.
Cambell College (Northern Ireland) started the day with a 3 shot lead, however this lead faded fast with Loretto (Scotland) and Wellington (England) playing some fantastic golf. Sami Bouzabia (Loretto) came in with the best round of the day, 73 (1 over par), putting Lorretto ahead of Cambell College. Jack Sallis also shooting a competitive score of 77, puting Wellington back in the race. Karl Eccles (Cambell College) shooting the second best score of the day, 75 (3 over par), however due to the unfortunate scores from his team mates, Cambell College fell back leaving the winner to be decided between Wellington and Loretto. After careful score counting from the ISGA organisers, it was found that there was a draw between Loretto and Wellington, both teams accumulating scores of 477 over both days.
This meant that there had to be a play off between Loretto and Wellington, the first ever play-off in ISGA Home Internationals history. The format being stroke play over 3 holes, each team choosing two players, both scores to count. Loretto went with Sami Bouzabia and Webke Lorentson, and Wellington chose Ryan Lumsden and Chris Thomas. Nerves and adrenaline began to show from Loretto resulting in Sami Bouzabia over shooting the 1st green to leave a difficult return chip out of the deep rough, this resulting in a 6, double bogey. Ryan Lumsden and Chris Thomas kept their cool extremely well beginning the play-off with 2 pars, giving them the upper-hand early on. Webke Lorentson started off steady with 2 pars, and Sami improving with a par on the second, however this could not compete with the Wellington boys who both birdied the second, making them 2 under par after 2 holes. This gave Wellington a 3 shot lead going onto the final play-off hole, and with 2 fantastic tee shots on the par 3 7th, leaving both Ryan Lumsden and Chris Thomas on the green. This secured Wellingtons Home Internationals victory over Loretto, Cambell College and Monmouth.
A thrilling finish to this years Home Internationals with a playoff between Loretto and Wellington…..2 players from each team played holes 1,2 and 7. Wellingtons players played some great golf to win the playoff by 5 shots.
