Junior Schools Cup 2012

ISGA Junior Schools Cup 15 October 2012

18 teams from schools all over the UK  competed for the 4th annual ISGA Junior Schools Cup, which took place this Monday 15th October. It was great to see such a fantastic turnout this year, as the number of teams had doubled from 2011, where only 9 teams competed. The hooter went at 10.00am to kick off the shotgun start with teams assembled on every tee on the golf course. The chili wind blowing but with sunshine, plus the difficulty of ‘The Shire’, promised this day to be tough one. There were some early cheers on the course as Adam Bassingthwaighte had a remarkable hole in one on the island green first hole.

The format for the day was Modified Stableford, where everyone played off an 18 handicap, which kept the game flowing and prevented much traffic. Although the conditions were tough, ‘Thomas Whiting’ from ‘Edgeborough’ shot an outstanding score of 45 Stableford points to grab the overall boy winner. Anya Olsen from Brighton College shot a competetive score of 35 points to win the best girl. Lastly in the teacher division, ‘Jamie Noble’ from ‘Moulsford’ came out on top, matching the boy winner with 45 points.

In the Team competition the overall winners were ‘Stamford School’ with a combined score of 83 points. Following closely behind in second place were ‘Reeds’ with a combined total of 81 Stableford points.
